The demands on modern electric motors are constantly growing. Higher performance with smaller dimensions, extreme reliability and the ability to work in demanding environments are required. The answer to these challenges is the vacuum potting technology of the stator winding at SOPU. What is its magic and why is it worth investing in it? In the production of top-quality electric motors, precise winding alone is no longer enough. The key factor that determines whether a motor will last for years of trouble-free operation or fail at the first overload is the final treatment of the winding. While classic varnish impregnation has its place, for demanding applications we are switching to vacuum epoxy resin casting . Why does the air have to go away? Air is the enemy of a powerful engine. It acts as a thermal insulator (prevents cooling) and in a high-voltage area can be a source of so-called partial discharges, which gradually degrade the insulation. At SOPO, we use advanced vacuum technology. The potting process takes place in a closed chamber where a vacuum is created. Thanks to this, we can: Remove microscopic air bubbles from the depth of the winding. Ensure perfect penetration of the resin even into the smallest gaps between the conductors and stator sheets. Create a homogeneous whole (monolith) that has the same physical properties in all places. 4 main benefits that technology brings to customers The vacuum process results in a stator that significantly outperforms conventional solutions. Here are the main reasons why more and more of our clients are turning to this technology: 1. Effective thermal management 🌡️ Epoxy resins have significantly better thermal conductivity than air. The cast stator acts as a thermal bridge – effectively transferring the heat generated in the windings towards the motor casing and cooling. The result? The motor does not overheat, can withstand higher current loads and operates more stably. 2. Mechanical resistance (Vibrations don't stand a chance) 🛡️ In demanding industrial operations or traction motors, vibrations and shocks are the order of the day. Potting fixes the conductors in one solid mass. This prevents the wires from rubbing against each other, which could otherwise lead to abrasion of the insulation and subsequent short circuits. 3. Perfect protection from the environment 💧 Moisture, dust, chemicals or metal shavings. The cast stator is virtually immune to these influences. This technology is therefore ideal for pumps, fans or motors operating in aggressive environments. 4. Noise reduction 🔇 The fact that the winding and stator bundle form a compact unit significantly reduces mechanical resonances. The motor is quieter in operation, which is a key parameter in many modern applications. In June, we took part in the very first year of Coiltech USA  in Detroit – a new industry-focused trade fair dedicated entirely to electric motors. Thank's to central location in one of North America’s largest industrial area, Detroit proved to be the perfect venue. We were proud to be among the first 100 exhibitors . Why were we there? To get closer to our American customers . Personal connections, understanding market needs, and establishing new partnerships are essential for us. What did we showcase? We presented our production of stators and rotors, as well as options for special motor parts manufacturing. There was strong interest in our efficient solutions for small and mid-size series , which we deliver reliably and on time. What does it mean for you? SOPO is currently taking an important step towards digitalization and streamlining internal processes – we are upgrading our IFS ERP system. From a technological point of view, this is a significant shift: we are moving from version 7.5 to the modern IFS CLOUD 24R2. This step is necessary so that we can keep up with the rapid development of society and at the same time better respond to the growing demands of our partners - whether it concerns communication or the data provided. Intensive testing of key and supporting processes, creation of new internal documentation, and training of our employees are currently underway. The goal is to ensure the smoothest possible transition to the new version of the system. The launch date of the new version (so-called "GO LIVE") is set for May 19, 2025. Although we pay maximum attention to testing, it may happen that during the week from May 19th to May 25th, there will be minor administrative delays – for example, in providing documents or information. However, the processing of your orders and the production itself will not be jeopardized. We believe that the new system will bring even greater reliability to our deliveries and better planning of production capacities in the future - not only for us, but also for you, our partners. Family businesses have their own charm, which lies in the combination of family values and entrepreneurship. At the "Family Business Week" conference, which took place on September 18th in Modletice, we actively participated in discussions with other like-minded entrepreneurs. The main theme of the conference was maintaining the motivation of key people - managers who play a crucial role in the development of any company. MD Luboš Kmeť, one of the speakers, emphasized the importance of a common vision between owners and managers. The key is the balance between their roles and mutual understanding. The second part of the conference was a panel discussion on the role of family businesses in the development of the region . SOPO was represented in this part by CEO Jan Ondráček, who spoke about business culture, employment opportunities and supporting the local community. The conference showed us once again that despite the difficult times many companies are facing, sharing experiences, inspiration and mutual support can help us move forward. It was great to see how family businesses can motivate each other and find common paths to success. Coiltech Augsburg On March 20 and 21, SOPO participated in the prestigious Coiltech® trade fair held in Augsburg, Germany. This trade fair is internationally recognized for presenting technologies and materials used in the manufacture of electric motors, generators and transformers. We presented our latest innovations and cutting-edge solutions at booth I-47 in Hall 2. Our team, including Jan Ondráček and Zdeněk Plášek, met many current and potential customers and shared their impressions from the first day of the fair.   Lively atmosphere and new opportunities During the two days we not only had the opportunity to present our products, but also to collect valuable feedback and establish new business contacts.
